I just want to live in peace.

I want to live in a world where an unarmed black man does not fear for his life when being approached by a police officer.

A world where religious extremists don’t solely exist to incite terror and kill their fellow man in the name of religion.

I want to live in a world where it’s okay to be Muslim, Christian, Jewish, or Atheist — if that’s what you so choose.

A world where you’re able to love freely without being stereotyped, categorized, and shamed for your beliefs.

I want to live in a world in which the color of one’s skin holds as much importance as the color of one’s eyes.

Where a woman can go for a walk alone without the fear of being pulled into an alley and mercilessly raped.

A world where intellect and the manner with which you treat others is valued more than the amount of money sitting in your bank account.

I want to live in a world where honesty, loyalty, and integrity is not something that has to be constantly questioned.

A world that is not ravaged by the harmful effects of drugs, alcohol, and meaningless crime.

I am so tired of the criticism and ignorance toward others’ opinions, lifestyle, religion, political affiliation, race, and gender.

Since when did we become so involved in how other people — who are raised in completely different environments from our own — choose to live their life?

We have enough to worry about with ourselves, much less strangers who live hundreds or thousands of miles away.

I just want to live in peace.

Is that too much to ask?
