Our lives truly consist of the thoughts we cultivate, especially since we have anywhere between 50,000 to 70,000 thoughts every single day. Positive thoughts generally result in more successful outcomes, whereas negative thoughts often lead to depression and anxiety. That is why it is imperative to educate ourselves on different types of thinking in order to further the life we envision.

John C. Maxwell explains in his book, How Successful People Think, 11 different types of thinking and how they can make a difference in our lives. Maxwell is widely considered the authority when it comes to writing about leadership. To date, his book sales are in the tens of millions.

How Successful People Think will show you the importance of thinking strategically, how to learn from thinking reflectively, and how to bring creativity back into our thoughts. This is a very compact read (only 124 pages) – which is perfect for someone who doesn’t have a lot of time to sit and read for long periods.

Books about leadership can be boring at times, but Maxwell keeps the reader engaged with an abundance of quotes from other notorious thinkers and thought leaders, along with questions at the end of each chapter intended to exercise critical thinking. My favorite aspect of this book is how it’s organized – definitely note-taker friendly. So remember to keep a pen and a notebook handy, you will want to refer back to your remarks on this book often.

Favorite quote:

To foster creativity in yourself or others, be willing to tolerate a little oddness.”

Favorite chapter: Chapter 3–Harness Creative Thinking

I highly recommend reading this book so you can begin implementing mental shifts for a more successful tomorrow!
